Course description

This course is called The Basics, but whether you’re intermediate or advanced, it’s important to spend time here. For a lot of advanced learners, the concepts laid out here are what make the final difference in sounding American.

In this course, you’ll find the correct placement for American English. This is extremely important for reducing your accent. You’ll get even better at imitating. Remember, the better you are at imitating Americans, the more natural your English will be.

You’ll also learn how to break down English into just the rhythm and just the melody, and how to practice these in isolation – this is really important for mastering the character of American English.

The skills you’ll learn in this course will apply to everything else you study. You will lay a solid foundation.

I like it so much, this audio 'Singing Phrases' my favorite. I everyday listening on my trip to the work in a car. And each day pronounce it better and better. I'd rather to have a lot these audio. I'm singing these phrases during all day at work :) Sounds a bit crazy, but it works!

Don't take this course for granted - even if you're an advanced student. I'm having lots of fun with the comparisons Rachel has made using different languages so we can see learning a new language - especially English - might be a lot more musical than we think. The concept of "placement" now makes much more sense to me. I think EVERY student who's learning English should be taught about everything I'm learning with this course. Also, watching these videos made think of how beneficial it might our imitation skills when we're working on our accent.
